Join us in celebrating the year of the rabbit at GL STRAND on January 26!
Alongside Tofu Collective, GL STRAND invites you to celebrate the Chinese New Year as part of our current exhibition Stepping Out! Female Identities in Chinese Contemporary Art. Experience, among other things, the Danish-Chinese musician CXCX Chu Chu, a sound performance, book launch, collective hot pot dinner, Baijiu drinks, and much more.
Sound performance: Breath of the Periphery at 17.30
Experience Spanish-Chinese artist Yi Ten Lai’s intimate sound performance, Breath of the Periphery, where she invites local musicians to breathe life into her ocarina works – which also function as ceramic flute instruments.
Book launch, talk and book signing at 18.30
Join the launch of the photobook Lens & Landscape, created in collaboration between the Norwegian photographer Tonje Bøe Birkeland and the Chinese photographer Maleonn, when the Norwegian micro-publisher Northing / Kinakaal guests Tofu Collective’s Reading Room in GL STRAND.
In connection with the launch, Northing / Kinakaal talks to Tofu Collective about their common work with promoting East Asian art and culture in the Nordic region.
Performative hot pot dinner in at 18.00-18.45 and at 19.15-20.00
Join a performative hot pot-dinner in GL STRAND’s cafe initiated by Hot Pot Republic, who will guide you through an eatable and cultural experience that will give you a taste of living in a collectivist culture such as China.
Hot Pot Republic is a Chinese restaurant in Vesterbro that supports artistic activities related to China and promotes Chinese food culture.

Concert with CXCX Chu Chu at 20.00
Experience the young rising star CXCX Chu Chu, who explores music through rap and singing with experimental elements, when she performs in GL STRAND with a subsequent DJ set.
Remember to visit our current exhibition Stepping Out! Female Identities in Chinese Contemporary Art covering all three floors which exceptionally will be open until 21.00.
In GL STRAND’s courtyard, you can buy New Year’s champagne and drinks made with the special Chinese alcohol Baijiu — traditionally known as ‘Chinese fire water’ — throughout the evening.
