With the opening of the exhibition Konrad Mägi – The enigmatic painting, GL STRAND invites you to a talk with the exhibition curator, Pilvi Kalhama. In her lecture “Symbolistic streams in Konrad Mägi’s painting philosophy”, Pilvi Kalhama will present and unfold Mägi’s unique combinations of modernist styles.
Mägi’s work relates stylistically to some of his contemporary colleagues and peers. However, the changing artist environments, the influence of international modern art and especially nature were crucial to Mägi’s development into Estonia’s leading modernist and his unique way of combining different modernist styles and techniques.
Kalhama will present Mägi’s enigmatic motives and his exceptional symbolist philosophy through an examination of selected artworks.
Pilvi Kalhama is the director of EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art in Finland and is the author of the book about Konrad Mägi published in relation to the exhibition.
The lecture will be held in English and will take place on Saturday 12 March at 14.00 in GL STRAND.
